Zhao Yong pointed out that in the past ten years, TCL CSOT has witnessed the development of China's panel industry from weak to strong. Now, we are concerned about the development of flexible OLEDs. From the market trend of smart phones, we can see that the total number of mobile phones will increase slightly in the next five years. Among different screens, only the flexible OLED segment has rapid growth.

 

5G catalyzes the interconnection of everything to change the form of terminal applications

 

In the past two years, 5G has emerged globally. To sum up, 5G has three important indicators, one is fast speed, the other is super-large capacity, and the third is ultra-low latency. These three aspects are very meaningful to the display industry.

 

In the past, the 4G era was more about making calls, sending text messages, and watching videos, and the Internet of Everything in the future relies on 5G. The connection application of display panels in the automotive industry also has a lot of imagination. For example, smart cars, unmanned driving, etc. all need display screens, and the display screens of cars will also have many forms.

 

Zhao Yong pointed out that in the future, mobile phones will be the main battlefield for folding screen applications. At that time, the average price of feature phones was around 1,000 yuan, and the annual production volume of more than one billion units spawned trillion-level industries; later, in the era of smartphones led by Apple, the average price of mobile phones has risen from 1,000 yuan To 3000 yuan or even 4000 yuan, the number is still growing, which makes the capacity of the entire industry have a huge increase. In the future, the 5G + folding screen may further increase the unit price of mobile phones, so can it be doubled, so that the entire industry has greater development?

 

Zhao Yong summarized the impact of 5G on the display screen into four main points: first, massive information, second, ultra-high-definition live broadcast, third, games, and fourth, multi-window, multi-tasking. 5G can bring a greater amount of information, which requires the display to provide more information, especially multiple windows. In the 5G era, each of us may see different live TV content. For example, watching football games, I like to watch A-stars, you can watch A-star-based shots; if you like B-stars, you will see another Group shot. In the 5G era, naturally, the larger the screen, the better, but from a usage point of view, mobile phones, TVs, and laptops all need to be portable. At this time, I hope the smaller the screen, the better. In this way, both the bigger the screen and the smaller the screen, the better. Folding the screen may be the best solution.

 

After the folding era comes, the screen size will also change. In the past, under 10 inches was called a small size, from 10 inches to 30 inches was a medium size, and above 30 inches was considered a large size. After the screen is folded, these boundaries will become blurred, and the form will become more diverse.

 

The panel industry is blowing a flexible wind, and the supply and demand of production capacity are different.

 

According to the already completed and announced production lines, it is estimated that by 2024, about 18 G6 30K production lines will be available for flexible OLED production capacity. At present, South Korea's flexible OLED production capacity is significantly ahead of other countries. In the future, China's production capacity will gradually increase. It is estimated that China will become the world's number one in two or three years.

 

In Zhao Yong's view, an innovative technology will go through three stages in the market, one is the start-up stage, the other is the early adopter leading stage, and the third is the mass follow-up stage. When technology has already dominated the market, conservatives and laggards will naturally join in. Zhao Yong predicts that five years later, folding screens will become an important form of mobile phones.

 

Regarding the forecast of shipments of flexible screens, different organizations have different voices. Zhao Yong pointed out that conservative people believe that the future development and growth rate of folding screens is slow, and the penetration rate will not be particularly high. According to conservative development estimates, 13 6-generation 30K lines can basically meet the demand, which is less than the total scale of 18 production lines, and the future will be oversupply; neutral estimates believe that the industry scale of folding screens will account for the entire flexible screen in 5 years 50% of the market, at this time, about 19 production lines are needed, and supply and demand are tight; more aggressive predictions believe that 5 years later, folding screens will account for 50% of the entire mobile phone market, and a total of 38 production lines are needed to meet.

 

The thinner the flexible screen, the better the requirements for materials

 

Zhao Yong believes that the future folding screen and flexible screen have several requirements for technology. First, low power consumption, the total power consumption of 5G will become larger, and the screen is the largest power-consuming component in mobile phones, so mobile phone screens save power Very important. The second is low latency. The third is flexible and bendable. It must be foldable and crimpable, and the thinner the better. Fourth, the combination of the screen and various sensors, such as under-screen fingerprints, screen sound, under-screen camera, touch control and other components, will be integrated into the screen.

 

Zhao Yong pointed out that Cover Window is particularly important in folding screens. In the folding screen phones of Samsung and Huawei, the most vomiting is the crease, which is especially obvious when the screen is turned off. The creases are related to Cover Window, and ultra-thin tempered glass with a thickness of tens of microns can be used. When Samsung launched the folding screen, it used two layers of material, with CPI on the bottom and a layer of PET on top. In the future, double-layer CW materials may be used. As for the last one, it will depend on the future development.
